Event Preview

The Ryder Cup is one of the standout events on the sporting calendar, as the best players from Europe take on the best that the United States have to offer. The event was pushed back 12 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the USA remain the clear favorites to retain the prize that they won at Whistling Straits in 2021.

There is no shortage of quality in the American side, with Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, and Patrick Cantlay all involved. Clark, Brian Harman, and Max Homa will be among the players making their debut at the Ryder Cup. However, all but one of the previous players that have represented the US in the Ryder Cup have won more than half of their matches in the event.

The European team is also stacked, with Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Viktor Hovland among the experienced players involved. There will be four players in the European team making their Ryder Cup debut, including Robert MacIntyre, Sepp Straka, Nicolai Hojgaard, and Ludvig Aberg.

It will be three days of exciting action, which kicks off with four foursome and four fourball matches. Day two will see the same format of matches, before all players will be in action in singles competition on the third and final day. A total of 28 points will be available, with 14 ½ being required to win the Cup.

The USA haven’t won the Ryder Cup on European soil since 1993, and that would be a concern for the holders coming into the weekend. That could be a key trend to consider before betting on the outright winner, and there could be value in siding with the hosts.
