Event Preview
The Women’s Australian Open gets underway in mid-January at Melbourne Park, with this year’s event being the 54th of the Open Era. Serena Williams is the most successful player in the history of the Grand Slam, having won a record seven singles titles during the Open Era. Aryna Sabalenka ended her wait for Grand Slam glory last year, beating Elena Rybakina in a thrilling three-set match in 2023.
Sabalenka will rank among the most likely contenders once again in 2024 after enjoying an excellent Grand Slam campaign last year. She reached at least the semi-final stage in all four majors, including a final appearance at the US Open to close out the season. The Belarusian boasts a strong win rate Down Under, winning 75% of her matches.

Iga Swiatek has been one of the most dominant players on the WTA Tour throughout recent history, with the 22-year-old having won four Grand Slam titles already. However, the current world number one crashed out in the fourth round at the Australian Open last year, marking her third exit at the stage in four editions.
Coco Gauff has already made herself at home Down Under after progressing easily through the rounds in the major prep tournament. The American showcased her dominance on the hard courts late last year when winning a first Grand Slam at the US Open, but she is yet to make it further than the fourth round at the Australian Open.
Women’s Australian Open Prediction
Naomi Osaka’s return to action makes her an interesting contender this year, as the Japanese star has won two of the Australian Open titles since 2019. However, a main win play could be found with Sabalenka, who has been dominant in Grand Slam events in recent seasons.
