Arsenal appear to be in cruise control on their hunt for a Premier League title this season. The Gunners sit five points clear at the summit, having won ten of their 14 league matches this season. Mikel Arteta’s side have suffered a league-low of just one defeat, and they boast the best defensive record in the competition.
Arsenal maintained their advantage at the summit with a routine success at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, as Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka netted the goals in a 2-0 success over Brentford.
However, this will be an interesting challenge against Aston Villa, who are currently the form team in the Premier League. Unai Emery’s side have recorded wins in each of their last four fixtures. That run of form has led them to third in the standings, and within six points of the summit.
Villa showed their character in midweek, coming back from 2-0 down to overcome Brighton. Ollie Watkins netted twice in the success, marking a welcome return to form. Amadou Onana and Donyell Malen also netted in the win.
