Two teams heading for disappointing seasons meet in Indianapolis in Week 9, but only one of them looks like it’s still fighting. The Dallas Cowboys are 3-5 after a painful overtime loss at home to the Cardinals, while the Indianapolis Colts are 2-6, on a four-game losing streak and already selling off key players. Dallas is a 5.5-point road favorite, with the total at 51.5.

You can find the latest NFL odds for every game this week, but here’s why I’m backing the Cowboys to cover and the under, and how you can bet on Cowboys vs Colts.

Update, Nov 3: The spread is unchanged at Cowboys -5.5, while the total has dropped from 52.5 to 51.5. We’re sticking with the under, graded at 52.5. The moneyline is now live, with the Cowboys at -250. Odds from BetOnline as of Nov 3.

Game Preview

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas let one slip in Week 8, losing 33-30 in overtime to the Cardinals after leading 17-3. Dak Prescott played a clean game, going 19 of 29 for 195 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers, but it wasn’t as productive as the Cowboys needed. Javonte Williams carried the ball 24 times but managed just 56 yards, and CeeDee Lamb was held to seven catches for 58 yards.

Still, Prescott and the offense did enough to put Dallas in a winning position before the collapse. The problem was on the other side, with Gardner Minshew throwing three touchdowns and Tyler Allgeier running for 147 yards. At 3-5, the Cowboys are facing down another bad season, and they badly need a get-right game. Indianapolis might be the perfect opponent at the perfect time.

Indianapolis Colts

There’s little to suggest there’s any fight left in the Colts. Indianapolis was hammered 42-7 by the Jaguars in Week 8, its fourth straight loss, and the front office is already moving on, with DeForest Buckner and Quenton Nelson both traded away. Jonathan Taylor is still a Colt for now, but his status for Sunday is unclear and he could be moved before the deadline, as could Josh Downs, who has reportedly requested a trade.

Daniel Jones hasn’t been able to recapture the lightning in a bottle he found before his injury last season. He went 19 of 28 for 144 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in Jacksonville, and at 2-6, this season looks like a wash. It doesn’t help that the defense has fallen apart too, with Indianapolis allowing 27.8 points per game, the third-worst mark in the NFL.

Cowboys vs Colts Predictions

I’m backing the Cowboys to cover the 5.5 points. Dallas has shown it can still score, and it was in control against Arizona before things fell apart. Against a Colts team that has lost four straight, traded two of its best players and could be without Taylor, I don’t see much life on the other side. The Cowboys need to win by six, and this is the kind of matchup where a team in need of a response can pull clear.

The moneyline is now up too, with the Cowboys at -250 and the Colts at +207. That implies roughly a 71% chance of a Dallas win, which feels light given the state of Indianapolis. It’s too short to back on its own, but it’s a strong parlay leg, and it’s the best bet on our NFL picks this week page.

That same lack of fight is why I’m also going under. If the Colts can’t put up much resistance on offense, it’s hard to see where their share of the points comes from. Indianapolis managed just seven points against Jacksonville, and if the Colts stall again, Dallas would need to score well into the 40s on its own to push this over. The Cowboys’ defense gave up plenty to the Cardinals, but a Jones-led offense without its key pieces is a very different test, and I expect this one to be decided by Dallas controlling the game rather than a shootout. I took the under at 52.5, and the drop to 51.5 says the market is coming around to the same view.
