Match Preview
Eyebrows were raised in late May when it was revealed that Manny Pacquiao would be returning to the ring. The legendary boxer revealed on social media that he would be taking on the reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas.
History has followed throughout the Filipino’s career, and he will be aiming to break his own record as the oldest welterweight world champion. Pacquiao set that record back in 2019 after defeating Keith Thurman to capture the WBA title.
The 46-year-old is one of the most recognized fighters in the history of the sport, holding 12 world championships across eight weight classes. However, he was beaten in his last fight by Yordenis Ugas in August 2021, marking his eighth professional loss in 72 bouts. But, it was his third defeat in his last seven.

It isn’t by chance that Barrios is the favored fighter for this bout, as the 30-year-old has been at the top of his game in recent years. The Golden Boy has accumulated a professional record of 29-2-1, and he was previously the super lightweight champion between 2019 and 2021.
Barrios will also have recent ring fitness on his side after competing in a draw against Abel Ramos in November 2024. Despite that blemish, the American is now unbeaten in his last four fights since being beaten by Thurman in February 2022.
Mario Barrios vs. Manny Pacquiao Picks
If Pacquiao was ten years younger, then this fight would be a lot easier to call. However, age catches up to everyone, and the legendary Filipino is no different. Therefore, he is likely to be vulnerable against the welterweight champion, meaning that the smart money is with Barrios to retain in Sin City.
