Game Preview

Houston got their 2nd consecutive win on Saturday, defeating the Vipers 28-21. They’ll aim to keep up their streaky ways by further building on this win streak. After winning 6 straight games to open the year, the Roughnecks lost 3 in a row, and have now won 2 straight. A win here would allow them to enter the playoffs on another win streak. Houston is locked into their division’s top spot, but will still play to win.

The Renegades nearly came back against the Defenders on Sunday, but came up short. They trailed 26-9 entering the 4th quarter, but managed to score 17 unanswered points and force overtime. A win would have clinched a playoff spot for Arlington, but instead they’ll be on the ropes for one more week. They control their own destiny, able to claim a spot with a win in this game, or alternatively, with a Brahmas loss.

Picks

This game could very well be a preview of the south division’s playoff game next week, though the location would change. Arlington will have a chance to prove that they belong in the playoffs and can compete with playoff teams by winning this game. They need their usually strong defense to bounce back, but I see the high motivation and home-field advantage being enough for the Renegades to get the win in this game.
