Event Preview

The 13th race on the Formula 1 schedule for 2024 will take place in Hungary at the end of July, as the field compete at the Hungaroring. This race was first competed on the F1 schedule in 1986, with the race seeing a total distance of 306.630 km being covered. A total of 70 laps will be completed by drivers in the Hungarian Grand Prix, with 14 corners across the 4.381 km circuit needing to be taken.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for the most wins in the race, and confidence should be high within the Mercedes garage after winning each of the last two races. Hamilton was an emotional winner of the British Grand Prix in the previous round, ending a near 1000-day winless streak in his home race at Silverstone.

Mercedes made all the right calls on that day, with Hamilton managing to hold off an on-coming Max Verstappen on his soft compound tires to win by over a second. However, it was certainly one that got away for McLaren, as a slow pit stop cost Lando Norris his chance of victory. The decision to pit for soft tires also saw him eventually overtaken for second by Verstappen in the final stages.

But, despite tactical errors, McLaren appears to be the quickest team on track at this stage, and they could be a solid contender to close the gap on Ferrari for second in the Constructors’ Standings in Hungary. Meanwhile, there will be hope of a return to form for Charles Leclerc, who has finished outside of the top ten in the last two races.

Hungarian Grand Prix Prediction

Qualifying will likely see a three-team fight for pole position. McLaren could be best suited to the track at the Hungarian Grand Prix, and we could see Lando Norris landing a second career win to put pressure on Verstappen at the top of the Drivers’ standings.
