Transition to the BMW Championship
The BMW Championship is the modern format for the Western Open. In 2007, the tournament was renamed and became the second event of the FedEx Cup. As a part of the reconstruction process, the format of the competition was changed in terms of invitational criteria, but the Western Golf Association continued running it. Tournament Format
The top 70 ranked players on the PGA Tour following the Northern Trust tournament are eligible to participate in the BMW Championship. So, since the field consists of only seventy players, there is no 36-hole cut. 2023 BMW Championship
