Event Preview

The Triple Crown series draws to a close at Belmont Park on Saturday, June 10, as the 2023 edition of the Belmont Stakes is staged. Forte will head the betting for trainer Todd Pletcher, as the three-year-old looks to bounce back after missing the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes through injury.

The form would still make Forte the horse to beat, as he was electric when winning the G1 Florida Derby from a wide draw. That success over Mage is the best form in the race, as he scored a speed rating of 102. However, it will be fascinating to see whether there are any lingering issues following his absence in the opening two Triple Crown races.

Pletcher is well represented, as he chases a fourth win in the race. Tapit Trice was one of the more disappointing performers in the Kentucky Derby, as he could only finish seventh. But, he had previously landed the G1 Blue Grass in strong style.

Arcangelo represents previous track experience, as he landed the G3 Peter Pan Stakes on his previous start for Jena Antonucci. However, only two horses have landed that Belmont race and the final Triple Crown since 1987. National Treasure won the Preakness on his previous start, but only two runners from the race at Pimlico have landed success in the Belmont Stakes in the last 13 years. That could also rule out Red Route One, who finished fourth in the Preakness.

Belmont Stakes Prediction

This year’s renewal of the race is fascinating, and it could be the most integral race to consider for future reference. However, we are happy to side with Angel of Empire at Belmont Park. He ran a storming race to take third in the Derby, and the extra distance could bring out further improvement for this progressive Brad Cox runner. At a price, Prove Worthy looks to be improving for Pletcher, and may be in with a chance of a top three finish.
