Milwaukee lost to Arizona, 7-3, on Wednesday, losing the series 1-2. They’ve now gone 2-3 in the 5 games since their 6-game winning streak was broken, and will aim to heat back up here. The Brewers currently lead the NL Central, and hold the best run differential in the National League at +24. They’re no strangers to early season success, but this tougher upcoming slate could determine the direction of their season.
The Padres lost their series to the Mets, falling 5-2 in the 3rd game on Wednesday. Like the Brewers, they’ll be seeking to bounce back in this upcoming series as their schedule continues to be brutal moving forward. San Diego’s successful season last year set the blueprint for another deep run this season, but so far they haven’t been too encouraging. They currently rank 18th in runs scored and 14th in runs allowed.
Prediction
I’m a bit surprised the Brewers are the Vegas underdog in this matchup. It’s true that they are on the road, but they have a better record and run differential than the Padres. They’ll also have an opportunity to face a struggling starting pitcher in Nick Martinez (6.17 ERA). It’s not a guarantee that Milwaukee will win this game, but I like their chances of picking up the victory and turning these favorable odds into a solid bet.
