They’ll now head on the road for the first time this season, preparing to face a Diamondbacks team that took 2 out of 4 games from them in Los Angeles earlier in the week. The Dodgers have been the MLB’s best team over the past 5 years, but are starting to feel the heat as the NL gets increasingly competitive.
The Diamondbacks completed a thrilling comeback against the Padres on Tuesday, splitting the mini 2-game series, and getting to 3-3 on the season. Their 3-3 start in 6 road games against the previously 111-win Dodgers, and the NLCS-reaching Padres, has been far better than expected. Arizona now hosts the Dodgers again for their home opener, and could continue to exceed expectations by winning the series.
Prediction
I’m tempted to take the Diamondbacks here after their hot start, especially considering how well they played in Los Angeles. There’s more to their 2-2 record against the Dodgers than meets the eye, though. They were outscored 20-7 in those 4 games, managing to win a couple of narrow 2-1 matchups. They have the home-field advantage, but I still see Arizona falling short against Dustin May and the Dodgers.
