Miami took their 4th loss of the season against the Mets on Friday, falling to 3-5 on the year. They opened up with a tough schedule against the Mets and Twins, but have played relatively competitively. Their -21 run differential definitely leaves room for improvement, though. The Marlins are certainly not the worst team, but they do have the MLB’s worst offense, having scored just 18 runs in their first 8 games thus far.
The Mets continued their success against the Marlins on Friday, returning to a .500 record at 4-4. Despite their strong record against Miami, they still have a lot of work to do. The only other team New York has played so far is the Brewers, and they were swept in that series, getting outscored 26-6 as well. After a 100-win season last year ended early, the Mets need to prove they are capable of beating playoff teams.
Prediction
The Mets have dominated the Marlins for much of the early season. Their only struggles came against defending NL CY Young winner Sandy Alcántara. In this game, it’ll be the less consistent Trevor Rogers (6.23 ERA) on the mound for Miami. He’ll be facing Kodai Senga (1.69 ERA) of the Mets, creating a mismatch. Coupled with home field advantage, and I see New York cruising to yet another win over Miami.
