Pick rationale

Analysis & key factors

  • The Mets took down the Dodgers, 5-3, on Wednesday.
  • San Francisco won 5-2 in the 11th inning against Miami.
  • The Giants are 341-295 in their all-time history against New York.

New York (12-7) and San Francisco (6-11) will meet in a key NL game. The Giants are sliding, and trying to get back to the way they played in 2021. Meanwhile, the Mets are aiming to claim 1st place in the NL East.

Game Preview

New York continued their strong start to the season, taking 2 out of 3 games against the Dodgers in Los Angeles. They’ve gone 9-3 with 4 series wins since being swept by the Brewers, but still remain 2 games out of 1st place in the NL East division. The Mets will have a chance to close that gap, with 7 upcoming games against the 6-11 Giants and 5-12 Nationals, before hosting the 1st-place Braves in a 4-game series.

The Giants snapped their 5-game losing streak with a win over Miami on Wednesday, but continued to play very poorly. They went 1-4 last week in series’ against the Marlins and Tigers, which indicates an even worse performance could be coming against a stronger team like the Mets. San Francisco has lost several games by close margins, so they’ll need their bullpen to perform closer to their 2021 level to heat back up.

Prediction

San Francisco hosts this game, which gives them a reasonable chance at winning it. That being said, they are clear underdogs with the way they’ve been playing lately. The Mets have a better record than anyone the Giants have faced so far, and San Francisco’s 2-4 home record inspires little confidence. Their best chance is to get on base a lot against Kodai Senga (1.44 WHIP), but I ultimately see the Mets winning here.
