The San Diego Padres are fresh off an NLCS trip. On top of that, Fernando Tatis Jr. will finish his suspension later in April, and Xander Bogearts signed a massive contract this offseason, as well as Manny Machado. Nelson Cruz joined the team, and the Padres have one of the best rosters from top to bottom in the entire MLB.

The Rockies lineup isn’t bad, and neither is the pitching staff. However, they finished 68-94 last year, last in the NL West and fourth-worst in the entire National League.
Jurickson Profar left San Diego and signed a deal with the Rockies, and Kris Bryant is the centerpiece of the lineup.
Prediction
The Rockies should improve from their 68-win season last year. However, the Padres are a popular pick to win the NL West and the World Series. Nick Martinez starting Game 2 is an interesting decision, but he pitched well last season, going 4-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 48 games between the starting rotation and bullpen.
Xander and Machado get off to a hot start, and the Padres win this one comfortably.
