Preview

Oklahoma impressed in their 2nd game of the season, taking down #12 Ole Miss on the road. That win launched them into the Top 25. The Sooners haven’t slowed down since then, outscoring their next two opponents by a combined score of 195-120. They face some more tough tests before Big-12 play starts, with games against #15 Tennessee and #17 UNC in the next month. They’ll need to focus on Virginia first.

Virginia has been quietly dominant so far this season, outscoring three mid-major opponents 230-152. They face their first real test of this season against Oklahoma, with a date against defending champions LSU also on the docket next week. The Cavaliers will rely on their capable defense and deep lineup in this game. In their last win over William & Mary, Virginia had nine seperate players grab four or more rebounds.

Prediction

This should be a very well-fought matchup between two scrappy Power-5 teams. Oklahoma managed to climb into the Top 25 following their ranked win over Ole Miss, but Virginia has looked just as dominant. It’ll be interesting to see if they can keep up that level of play against tougher opponents. Overall, these teams match up pretty well. It should come down to the wire, but I’d take the Cavaliers to get the victory at home.

NCAAW Picks:

  • Virginia 66, Oklahoma 64 ()
