The Colts had a down year last season, finishing 4-12-1, after going 9-8 the previous year. A large portion of their struggles came from the unavailability of star RB Jonathan Taylor, who spent much of the season injured. Oddly, the Colts decided not to embrace Taylor’s return now that he is healthy, instead pushing him away, and signing RB Kenyan Drake as a stopgap. This decision could endanger their entire season.

Indianapolis will shift their focus to rookie QB Anthony Richardson, who is considered by many to have the highest ceiling of any QB in the 2023 NFL Draft. Described as a raw prospect, Richardson may be coming along faster than a lot of people expected. Even so, the potential lack of having Jonathan Taylor in the offense will affect Richardson greatly. They need OG Quenton Nelson to bounce back this season as well.
Prediction
Depending on how fast Anthony Richardson develops, the Colts could be back in contention sooner than many people think. That being said, it’s hard to imagine them more than doubling last season’s win total, especially if Jonathan Taylor doesn’t return to the starting lineup. QB Gardner Minshew is not a bad option if Richardson struggles, but Indianapolis needs more than Minshew magic to make the playoffs in 2023.
