Game Preview

In week 12, the Packers defeated the Lions by a score of 29-22. Despite a second-half rally, the game was essentially over by halftime when Green Bay led 23-6. Nonetheless, there were plenty of positives for Detroit to take away from the game. The strong performances from their running back committee, comprising of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, will be crucial as the Lions push for the playoffs. Additionally, the continued excellence of wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, popularly known as the “Sun God,” who has amassed 82 receptions for 993 yards and 5 touchdowns so far this season, is pushing him for a top-five finish at the position. Rookie tight end Sam LaPorta also had a bounce-back performance after two poor weeks, posting 47 yards and a touchdown on 5 receptions, and tying an NFL record in the process.

The Saints suffered a 15-24 loss against Atlanta in week 12, which was disappointing. However, the injuries picked up by the team hurt them more than the defeat. During the game, WR Chris Olave had a great first half and made 7 receptions for 114 yards before he suffered a severe concussion and was forced to leave the game. Olave, who is a 23-year-old sophomore, will have to undergo the league’s concussion protocol in order to be cleared to play in week 13. Meanwhile, fellow wide receiver Rasheed Shaheed sustained a quad injury against the Falcons and won’t be able to play this weekend. As a result, the Saints’ receiving corps will be severely under-strength.

Prediction

The injuries to the Saints receiving unit means I can only see one winner in this matchup. The Lions will be too strong for New Orleans here and should be able to win here, even if they get off to a slow start again.
