Analysis & key factors
- The Seahawks fell short in the first round of the playoffs last season.
- They exceeded expectations in what was thought to be a rebuild year.
- Seattle will have a chance to further their success under QB Geno Smith.
As the 2023-24 NFL season approaches, let’s take a look at the Seattle Seahawks’ playoff odds and weigh their chances of making the postseason this year. They’ll aim to build on last season’s surprising success.

The Seahawks officially moved on from long-time QB Russell Wilson before last season, trading him to the Broncos in exchange for multiple picks and players. Instead of regressing and winning fewer than the previous year’s 7 games, Seattle actually improved last year. QB Geno Smith provided a level of play that a banged-up Wilson couldn’t manage in 2021, and the Seahawks came together to make the playoffs at 9-8.

Seattle’s trade of Wilson already seems like a fantastic decision, with Wilson continuing to struggle on a horrendous Broncos team last season. Meanwhile, rookie RB Kenneth Walker III had a tremendous start to his career, and QB Geno Smith won comeback player of the year. This season, the Seahawks have a very similar roster but added even more talent on both sides of the ball. They are set up for another good year.
Prediction
If Geno Smith continues to play at a high level, the Seahawks have a great chance of making the playoffs once again. Their offense features a lot of talent, including RB Kenneth Walker and WRs DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and now rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The defense is more of a concern, but with CB Tariq Woolen clamping down on WRs, they’ll have enough juice to compete. I see a similar result to last year for Seattle.
