Analysis & key factors
The champagne was put on ice in the Eastern Conference finals, as the Florida Panthers were unable to secure their passage through to the Stanley Cup finals on Monday, despite having home ice advantage. A 3-0 defeat means that they have failed to complete the sweep against the Carolina Hurricanes, and the series moves back to PNC Arena on Wednesday.

Event Preview
There was an expectancy in the air at the Amerant Bank Arena on Monday evening, as the Florida Panthers had home ice advantage in their bid to secure a sweep in the Eastern Conference finals against the Carolina Hurricanes. However, there was a sting in the tail, as the Panthers were out-played against the Canes.
Despite the fact that they remain the clear outsiders to progress through to the Stanley Cup finals, the game four victory was a historic moment for the Canes. Most notably due to the fact that it was their first win in the conference finals for nearly 20 years.

It was a win that was thoroughly deserved. Following a tense opening period, the Hurricanes went into the lead in the second. They then made their advantage count after scoring in an open net on two occasions in the final period.
Sebastian Aho, Logan Stankoven, and Jordan Staal were the heroes in Florida, as the Canes ended their long wait for a win in the conference finals. However, special attention should also be given to Frederik Andersen, who ended the night after making 20 saves.
Despite the rare bright spark, the pressure remains on the Canes ahead of game five. A victory would threaten to de-rail the Panthers in their hunt for a Stanley Cup place, but a defeat would see them knocked out of the playoffs.
Hurricanes vs. Panthers Game 5 Picks
Monday evening presented a rare bright moment in this series, and indicated that the Canes can compete against the Panthers when they are at their best. However, their newfound hope of defying expectations could come to an abrupt halt back at PNC Arena.
