The Vegas Golden Knights enjoyed an excellent regular season campaign, as they finished top of the Western Conference standings. However, there will be immediate pressure on one of the leading contenders coming into their second game against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday after they were hammered 5-1 in the opening clash between the sides.

Vegas was defensively sound in the opening period, before things slowly began to unravel in the second. William Karlsson pulled one back in the second period to make it 2-1, but that was the closest that they would get to a firing Jets side. It wasn’t the best night for Golden Knights goalie Laurent Brossoit, as he made just 26 saves from 30 shots.

Game one was beyond the wildest dreams for the Jets, as they stormed to an early advantage in this series. They blew the Golden Knights away in the final period with three goals to secure the 5-1 success, and it was the very least that their performance deserved earlier this week.

Adam Lowry was dangerous throughout for the Jets, and he ended the night with two goals. Meanwhile, Blake Wheeler scored once and registered two assists, while further goals were added by Pierre-Luc Dubois and Kyle Connor. That result would have been a shock to the system for the Golden Knights this week, but the Jets could now be primed to take a 2-0 series lead.

There will be massive pressure on the Golden Knights coming into this second game of the series. They will need to be better in every position across the ice if they are to level the series. However, we expect a much-improved effort by the hosts, and we could see them securing a healthy victory over the Jets.
