Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers NHL Betting Preview

Penguins Targeting Back-to-Back Playoff Appearances

Dan Muse will lead the Pittsburgh Penguins into the new season after the team ended a three-year absence from the playoffs in 2025-26. A chance of immediate revenge will be offered on opening night, as the Penguins come up against the team that eliminated them in the opening round.

There is a sense that the Penguins are building a strong core group that is capable of consistent playoff appearances, with the offense once again consisting of Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby. Their defense should also be reliable, with stars such as Kris Letang and Erik Karlsson protecting the Penguins’ goal. However, there is a sense of now or never for the Penguins, as Crosby, Malkin, and Karlsson all have just one year remaining on their current deals.

Andrei Kuzmenko is the most exciting addition, replacing Anthony Mantha. Kuzmenko scored 61 goals across his first two seasons in the NHL, but has netted just 25 in 52 for the Los Angeles Kings last term before a knee ruled him out of action from February onwards.

Flyers Aiming to Build on Last Season’s Playoff Finish

Rick Tocchet will once again lead the Philadelphia Flyers into the new NHL season, as the franchise aim to build on a first return to the playoffs since 2020.

However, they will need to be more reliable throughout the season, with their late-campaign charge of 18-7-1 seeing them make the postseason. The Flyers have opted to build on what they have this season, with the majority of the roster remaining in tact from last term. A major area of weakness last season was their efficiency in the power play, registering a league-worst record.

Tyson Foerster and Porter Martone fully fit should enhance their chances of improving that record, with the latter leading the team with three power play goals.

Head-to-Head Betting Insights

  • The Flyers have won 63.9% of their home games against the Penguins.
  • Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh in six games in the first round of the playoffs last season.
  • The Penguins have won just 33.3% of their road games against the Flyers.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Philadelphia Flyers NHL Betting Picks

I’m not totally convinced that the Flyers will make the playoffs this season, with their finish likely exaggerated based on their form at the end of the campaign. The Penguins look a well-rounded group for a deep run this term, and they present the value selection on opening night in Philadelphia.
