Event Preview

The anticipation ahead of the new Formula 1 season will continue to rise until the start of March, as the lights will go out for the first time to signal the start of the first race in Bahrain on March 2. The 2023 season was all about the dominance of Red Bull and Max Verstappen, with the Dutchman winning a higher percentage of races throughout the season than any other driver in history.

Meanwhile, Red Bull won 21 of the 22 Grand Prix throughout 2023, with their only defeat coming in Singapore. Verstappen finished just under 300 points clear of teammate Sergio Perez, but at no point during the season did there feel like there was a title challenge coming from the garage next door.

The question as to which team is best positioned to challenge Red Bull in 2024 is interesting. Mercedes were competitive enough throughout the campaign, with Lewis Hamilton showing his quality in a below-par car to achieve six podium finishes. However, it was the first season in nearly ten years that Mercedes failed to record a single race win.

McLaren could be the most progressive rival, with Lando Norris pushing Verstappen the closest throughout the second half of the season. The Englishman finishes second on six occasions, while Oscar Piastri got the better of Verstappen to win a sprint earlier in the campaign. Ferrari also have questions to answer after they could only finish third in the Constructors’ standings. However, Charles Leclerc at least ended the season with back-to-back second-place finishes.

F1 Drivers’ Championship 2024 Prediction

At this very early stage, it looks incredibly challenging to overlook Verstappen winning a third Drivers’ Championship in 2024. However, we could see his main threat coming in the form of Lando Norris.
