Event Preview

The complexion of the Formula 1 season has shifted since the summer break, with all the questions heading into the Singapore Grand Prix hanging over an out-of-form Red Bull. The reigning Constructors’ champions lost their advantage at the summit last weekend, as Oscar Piastri landed victory in Azerbaijan, with Lando Norris taking second.

It was a fine recovery drive by Norris, who eventually finished fourth after a dramatic crash between Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez in the closing stages. That finish for the Brit leaves him well within touching distance of Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ standings with seven rounds remaining.

There is still a sense that Verstappen will stumble over the line this term, as Norris will likely need to win the remaining races to truly trouble the Dutchman. But, the fact that Verstappen has finished on the podium in just one of the last five races only highlights the fact that the bridge between Red Bull and the chasing pack has been closed.

Ferrari will also fancy their chances on another street circuit this weekend, with Charles Leclerc taking second in Azerbaijan after cooking his tires when trying to chase down Piastri. Sainz also appeared to be on course for a podium finish before his crash with Perez. It could be a fight between Ferrari and McLaren to win in Singapore.

Singapore Grand Prix Pick

Another fascinating race is set for this Sunday at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. However, the manner in which Norris cut through the field last weekend means that he looks to be the play this weekend if he can ensure a strong qualifying position on Saturday.
