Event Preview
The unrelenting PGA Tour continues this weekend at TPC Twin Cities, as the 3M Open is staged in Minnesota. The field will be competing for their share of the $8.8 million purse, with a total distance of 7,431 yards covered at the par 71 course.
Only three events remain before the FedEx Cup Playoffs, and this is the time of the season when Scottie Scheffler typically hits a different gear. The American world number one finished T4 at last week’s Open, and it is somewhat overlooked that he has won just once in 2026. However, his proven game makes him the standout chance this week, with Scheffler having achieved nine top-five finishes this season.
Defending champion Kurt Kitayama should be capable of a solid title defense. The American set a course-record in his third round last year, and he has also previously finished T6 at TPC Twin Cities. His excellent course form ensures that he shouldn’t be overlooked.
Tom Kim’s confidence would have been sky-high after winning the Scottish Open at the start of the month. However, he failed to build on that showing after failing to miss the cut at The Open. Lucas Glover is another worth consideration, having finished in the top five at both the John Deere Classic and ISCO Championship.
Emiliano Grillo should be well-rested after sitting out the last two events, and he should be respected after making the cut in five of his six appearances at this competition. Gary Woodland has built on his win at the Houston Open earlier this season with three top-ten finishes.
3M Open Picks
Scheffler is an incredibly short price favorite this weekend for good reason. However, at a bigger price, Ben James could be capable of an upset. The top-ranked university player finished T4 last weekend and has now made the cut on all five starts as a pro. His previous experience at this course could bode well for his chances in Minnesota.
