Match Preview
The Haskell Stakes is an important race on the horse racing schedule for horses aged three in the United States, as it is typically the final stop before horses from the race line up in the Breedersā Cup Classic. The race will cover a distance of 1 1/8 miles, with a purse of $1 million up for grabs in New Jersey. Authentic was the last winner of the race to follow up with success in the Classic.
Mindframe is a very interesting favorite in the race this weekend for trainer Todd Pletcher. The three-year-old took an eye-catching step up in grade in the Belmont Stakes, but was narrowly denied victory by Dornoch after veering left toward the finish line. There is certainly more improvement to come from this Pletcher contender.

Dornoch was the winner of the Belmont Stakes at Saratoga, clocking a career-best speed figure in the process. The three-year-old for Danny Gargan has been steadily progressive throughout the season, and was tenth in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. However, it could be argued that he was slightly fortunate to have won the final Triple Crown race of 2024.
Fierceness was seen by most as the standout three-year-old before finishing 15th in the Kentucky Derby earlier this season. However, few would be surprised to see him bounce back in this smaller field based on the evidence of his G1 Florida Derby success in late March. But, he now has questions to answer.
Haskell Stakes Prediction
There was so much to like about Mindframeās performance in the Belmont Stakes on his first attempt in Grade One company, and he looks like a winner waiting to happen at the highest level. His breakthrough at the top table could come this weekend.
