Secretariat Stakes: Betting Preview
Horses aged three will be involved at Colonial Downs on Saturday, as the G2 Secretariat Stakes could offer clues in the Breeders’ Cup betting for the Mile. A field of nine runners have been declared, and you can find a rundown of the leading contenders below.
Mark Casse-trained Alpyland will be a solid favorite at the top of the betting. The colt has won impressively on his last two starts, including when easily putting three lengths between himself and the remainder of the field in the American Derby. His progressive profile makes him a very interesting contender.
Cherie DeVaux has already landed notable wins at the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes this year, and she will have her sights set on turf success with Supercharger on Saturday. He has won impressively on back-to-back starts, and further improvement from the Constitution colt is highly likely.
Turf Star should also be considered this weekend after running with great credit in top races throughout this season. He was last seen finishing five lengths behind Title Role in the G1 Belmont Derby, but this drop back down to a mile could be key to his chances.
Conducted is fascinating on his long-awaited return to the track. He was excellent at the end of last season when winning the Aftercare Alliance Stakes, but there is a chance that he may need this return run to build fitness. Redland Rebels shouldn’t be dismissed, despite a frustrating profile for the Patrick Biancone yard.
Secretariat Stakes Picks
Casse and Javier Castellano both have proven records in this race, which makes the progressive Alpyland very difficult to oppose. His progressive profile makes him the one to beat, while we could foresee Supercharger and Conducted rounding off the first three.
