For just the fifth time in history, the Milan clubs will collide in a European fixture. The previous meetings have been positive experiences for AC Milan, as they are unbeaten in four. This is the first time that the local rivals have clashed in the Champions League since they battled in the semi-finals of the 2002-03 season, with Milan advancing on away goals.

Milan has an excellent home record in Champions League semi-final clashes at the San Siro, as they have lost just once in six. Their only defeat came against Barcelona in 2005-06, which was also the only goal that they had conceded in semi-finals at the San Siro. They have excelled defensively throughout the competition this season, as Milan has allowed just one in their previous six.
