Match Preview

History will be made in Berlin this weekend, as the EURO 2024 champions will be crowned. Gareth Southgate will be looking to deliver a first major honor for the first time since 1966, with the Three Lions competing in their second consecutive EURO final. It hasn’t been an easy ride to the final for the pre-tournament favorites, but they delivered their best performance of the competition to date in the semi-finals.

England looked fluid in the final third of the field for the first time, and they once again showed excellent character to seal the victory with a 90^th-minute winner by Ollie Watkins. Harry Kane had previously fired England level in Dortmund, setting a new record for the most goals in the knockout stages of a major tournament by a European player.

Spain have been the standout nation at the EUROs this summer, with their free-flowing style of play catching the eye throughout the tournament. Like England, the Spanish needed to come from behind in their semi-final clash in midweek, netting twice in four first half minutes against France to turn the game on its head.

Lamine Yamal was undeniably the star of the day for Spain, with his effort likely to go down as the goal of the tournament at the EUROs. The win was Spain’s sixth in succession at the EUROs this year, making history in the process by becoming the first nation to achieve that feat. On Sunday, they will be attempting to win their third EUROs, and their first since 2012.
