The pressure will once again be on Gareth Southgate and his England side on Saturday, as the Three Lions look for a positive performance when they come up against Switzerland. England have stuttered through the early rounds at the EUROs this summer, but they will need to be much better if they are to end their long wait for a major honor.

This weekend’s clash between the nations will be the fourth time that England and Switzerland have collided at a major tournament, and it will be the third occasion that the fixture has been played at the EUROs. The most recent clash between the sides saw England land a 3-0 win at EURO 2004.

England’s record against the Swiss is very challenging to overlook ahead of this weekend, as they have lost just once in their last 24 meetings. Southgate deserves credit for the job that he has done with the Three Lions, as they will be competing in the quarterfinal stage for the fourth straight major tournament. However, England have progressed from just two of their last four EURO quarterfinals.

This weekend will mark just the fifth time that Switzerland have competed in a quarterfinal at a major tournament. But, they have been eliminated in all four previous appearances at this stage of the competition. However, the Swiss deserve plenty of respect, as they have suffered just one defeat in their last 14 matches at the EUROs.
