An excellent season for Aston Villa is currently at a cross-roads, as Unai Emery’s side will desperately be looking for a return to winning ways on Saturday. The Villa were comfortably beaten at home by Newcastle in midweek, meaning that they could drop out of the Champions League spots before this clash against the Blades this weekend.

Sheffield United only had themselves to blame in midweek, as they slipped to a 16^th defeat of the campaign against Crystal Palace. The Blades took the lead on two occasions in that fixture, including an opening minute opener by Ben Brereton Diaz. Despite the positive display, it was a familiar feeling for the Blades on the road.

That makes their second-worst opening to a season at this stage of the season in the top four divisions since 1975-76. But, the arrival of Diaz has sparked a slight upturn in their fortunes, and they are offering more in the final third at this stage.

Aston Villa’s excellent home record was dented in midweek, as they dropped to a first loss at Villa Park since February 2023. It is worth mentioning that they also have a poor record against the Blades in the Premier League, winning once in the last five meetings.
