Match Preview

Both Colombia and Jamaica have exceeded expectations to reach this stage of the Women’s World Cup. But, there would be little surprise to see either of the nations go on to achieve something remarkable this summer. Colombia has been one of the standout nations at the competition, and would probably be the team that most neutrals are hoping to see excel this summer.

The South American nation were excellent across their opening two matches, with their standout victory coming against Germany on matchday two, as they scored a 97th minute winner. Teenage superstar Linda Caicedo has got the world talking, as the 18-year-old has scored twice in three group stage matches, and she will once again be the danger for Jamaica in Melbourne.

Jamaica also sprung a surprise in the opening round, as they progressed from Group F at the expense of Brazil. The Central American nation needed a point against their South American rivals on matchday three to progress, and they defended excellently to safely hold on to a 0-0 draw.

Defensively, Jamaica has been excellent throughout the competition to this point, as they have kept clean sheets in all three matches that they have played. Their performances this summer have seen them progress from their 2019 campaign at the World Cup, as they lost three straight matches in France. They remain a danger against a talented Colombian outfit.

Colombia vs Jamaica Prediction

This is a fascinating round of 16 showdown between two nations that have exceeded expectations this summer. However, we find it extremely challenging to overlook Colombia, who could have an excellent chance of going all the way to the final this year.
