The United States will be among the leading contenders to land victory in the 2023 Gold Cup, and they will kick off their defense of the title in Chicago. They should come into this year’s event in excellent form, as they recently landed a second straight success in the CONCACAF Nations League.

The American team were excellent across the semi-final and final stage of that tournament, beating Mexico in the final four, before overcoming Canada in the final. It was a routine success for the USA in the final on Sunday, with both Chris Richards and Folarin Balogun netting inside the opening 35 minutes.

Jamaica should be confident of reaching the next round of the Gold Cup this year, as they are many peoples’ picks to land second in the group. However, they will need to get off to a competitive start, before coming up against Trinidad and Tobago in their crucial second match in Group A on June 29.

However, Jamaica have been struggling for consistency in recent international outings, as they have gone five without a win. Their most recent outing came in the middle of June, as they were beaten by Qatar. Over that sequence, Jamaica has also lost to Trinidad and Morocco.

Jamaica has won just one of their previous eight international matches against the USA, with that success coming in an international friendly in June 2019. Since then, the U.S. has won four of the previous five, with the most recent match ending in a 1-1 draw.
