Canada will be among the leading contenders to win the Gold Cup this year, but they will need to put recent Nations League disappointment behind them. John Herdman’s side were beaten in the Nations League final by the United States, and a possible rematch with the Americans looms later in the Gold Cup. Canada will be looking for a second Gold Cup success, having previously landed a maiden victory in 2000.

Since then, Canada has failed to make the final, having being eliminated in the final four back in 2021. They come into their opening game in solid recent form, as they have won three of their four matches since the World Cup. It will be a famous moment for Guadeloupe on Tuesday, as they will be competing in their second straight edition of the Gold Cup. However, they will be hoping to do better than they did in 2021, as they lost all three matches. Their previous best appearance came in 2007, as they finished fourth overall.

Guadeloupe easily managed to achieve qualification for the Gold Cup this year after being Antigua and Barbuda 5-0 in the opening round, before landing a comfortable 2-0 success over Guyana. One of the nation’s biggest results was achieved against Canada, as they secured a 1-0 win on their way to the semi-finals in 2007.
