Race Preview
The H. Allen Jerkens Memorial has been an excellent race to showcase some of the finest sprinters in the U.S. throughout history, with previous winners including Drefong, Runhappy, and Lost in the Fog. This year’s race looks a compelling renewal, and cases can be made for a number of the runners involved.
Bob Baffert hasn’t won this race since 2016, but he holds two strong chances this weekend. The first of those comes in the form of Arabian Lion, who finally looks to have found his best form since a disappointing start to the season. He landed a first win in stakes company in the Sir Barton, before he stormed to success to land the G1 Woody Stephens. The latest of those runs scored a speed figure of 115.

Fort Bragg is the second of the Baffert runners, and he will be the ride of Joel Rosario this weekend. The three-year-old has been largely disappointing throughout the season, but he took a massive step in the right direction to land the G3 Dwyer Stakes on his previous start, scoring a speed rating of 107.
However, New York Thunder is the most interesting contender this weekend, as the three-year-old is unbeaten in four career starts for trainer Jorge Delgado. The latest of those wins was scored at Saratoga, as he scored a 108 speed figure to capture the G2 Amsterdam. He is certainly the most progressive of the runners involved this weekend.

This is a fascinating renewal of the race, and a chance will be taken on the progressive New York Thunder. The three-year-old is getting better with every run, and he looks to be a solid contender for the connections of AMO Racing USA.
