West Ham had made a pleasing start to the new Premier League season, but the Hammers will be looking to get back on track this weekend after losing each of their previous two. The most recent of those was at Anfield against Liverpool. But, there isn’t much shame about losing in consecutive weeks against Man City and the Reds.

West Ham have an excellent record against newly promoted sides, as they have won each of their last six since suffering a 1-0 defeat in their opening away game of the campaign against Nottingham Forest last term. This is currently their longest winning run against newly promoted opposition.

Sheffield United had a fine record in this fixture between 1994 and 2020, as they lost just once against the Hammers in the Premier League. However, the Blades were beaten by West Ham in both fixtures in the 2020-21 season. A response will certainly be needed after last weekend’s capitulation against Newcastle.

That 8-0 defeat was their heaviest ever loss in the Premier League. Only one team in Premier League history have bounced back from a defeat by an eight-goal margin with a victory in their following fixture. The Blades also have a poor away record against West Ham, as they have won just once in their last ten visits to East London.
