However, he has taken his performance levels to new heights during the National Bank Open this summer. Shelton has eliminated seeded rivals in each of the last four rounds, and has looked to be getting more confident with every outing. Karen Khachanov has already won an ATP 1000 event during his career, but he is yet to truly make his mark on a hard surface. The Russian does bring respectful form into this final after recently reaching a career-best quarterfinal at Wimbledon during the summer.
However, his performances have gone up a gear during the National Bank Open. Khachanov produced a stunning display to overcome Casper Ruud in the round of 16, before battling to a three sets win over Alexander Zverev in the previous round. But, his low accumulation of winners on his first serve could be his undoing against Shelton.
