Los Angeles Kings vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Betting Preview

New-Look Kings Set Out On Improving Their Offensive Output

The Los Angeles Kings begin their first campaign under new head coach Peter Laviolette with a simple task, to improve their offensive output. Scoring goals was a major issue for the Kings throughout last season, as they registered just 2.68 per game.

That ranked as the 29th best offensive record in the NHL. However, Laviolette’s arrival does come with promise, as the coach previously led the Carolina Hurricanes to Stanley Cup glory in 2006. Anze Kopitar’s retirement presents a challenge for the Kings, as he won 56.9% of his face-offs last season.

Erik Haula, Scott Laughton, and Quinton Byfield will lead the offense this term. Mats Zuccarello should also prove to be an inspired addition, as the forward racked up 54 points for the Minnesota Wild last season.

Avalanche Set Sights on Stanley Cup Glory

For much of last season, the Colorado Avalanche looked like the outstanding chance to win the Stanley Cup. Jared Bednar’s side ended the regulation season as Presidents’ Trophy winners and they were the first team to confirm their playoff participation.

However, their run to the Stanley Cup ended abruptly, losing when heavily favored in the Western Conference Finals against the Vegas Golden Knights, being swept in four games.

They must pick themselves up for the start of the new season, and there is every chance that their Stanley Cup window remains open. Nathan MacKinnon will be important in the offensive areas, after scoring a league-high 53 goals last season. Much of the core group remains in tact, while Zachary L’Heureux and Fedor Svechkov have been added to the deep roster.

Head-to-Head Betting Insights

  • The Avalanche have won seven straight games against the Kings in the NHL.
  • The Kings have won just once in eleven head-to-heads against the Avalanche.
  • Colorado have won 55.7% of their home games against the Kings.

Los Angeles Kings vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Betting Picks

The Avalanche will be targeting a dream start to the season to firmly put last season’s Western Conference sweep behind them. Everything suggests that a home win is the likely outcome on Wednesday, especially considering that the Avalanche have won each of the previous seven head-to-heads.
