The WBA welterweight title will be on the line in Las Vegas at the end of August, as Rolly Romero defends against former two-division champion Teofimo Lopez at the T-Mobile Arena.
Despite being the champion, Romero will be the outsider in the Vegas odds betting. The 30-year-old will be fighting in his home city, and he should be respected as a world champion in three weight classes. Rolly upset the odds last year to win the vacant WBA welterweight title, beating Ryan Garcia in Times Square.
The champion has now won 17 of his 19 professional bouts, with his only recent losses coming in super lightweight and lightweight title fights against Isaac Cruz and Gervonta Davis.
However, the date in August will be all about Lopez’s return to the ring. The Takeover is a former two-weight world champion, and was the undisputed king of the lightweight division up until 2021.
Lopez will have questions to answer in Sin City after falling to a unanimous decision loss against Shakur Stevenson in New York earlier this year, losing the WBO and The Ring light welterweight titles in the process. However, his size advantage could be crucial against his championship rival in Las Vegas.
