Event Preview
The oldest race on the F1 schedule is set for Great Britain this weekend, as the British Grand Prix will see drivers complete a total of 306.198 km, made up of 52 laps of the Silverstone Circuit.
The battle for the Drivers’ Championship has taken a twist in the last two rounds, with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton cutting into Kimi Antonelli’s advantage. Russell was an excellent winner of last weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix, holding off Max Verstappen in the closing stages to hold on to the win. His victory means that just 40 points now separate the Mercedes drivers.
However, it would be unwise to rule out Hamilton this weekend, with the Brit holding the record for the most victories at the British Grand Prix. The seven-time world champion has been in excellent form this season, winning in Barcelona to register a first victory for Ferrari.
McLaren also looked more competitive at the Red Bull Ring last weekend, with Oscar Piastri taking fourth and Lando Norris finishing in seventh. Red Bull are also improving at a rapid rate, with Verstappen’s strong pace taking him to within two seconds of the race win in Austria last Sunday.
British Grand Prix Picks
Hamilton’s Ferrari will have further upgrades this weekend, and it could be challenging to overlook his chances of victory at a track where the record-breaking world champion has dominated. A strong qualifying session could put him in a strong position to win at Silverstone for the tenth time.
