Event Preview
The 34th race of the NASCAR Cup Series season is scheduled for this Sunday, with Talladega Superspeedway hosting the YellaWood 500. This race was first held in 1969, and the field will cover a total distance of 500.08 miles this Sunday. Yet another competitive event is expected, with the race having hold the record for the most leads consistency throughout history.
All eyes will be on Kyle Larson this weekend, as the current Drivers’ Championship leader failed to extend his advantage last time out when he finished only 34th in the Freeway Insurance 500. His advantage was cut into by Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe, who finished fourth and eighth, respectively.
Bell has been consistent throughout the season, but it would be a slight concern that he has only won once. Briscoe very much looks to be the now-driver, winning the South Point 400 and Bank of America 400 during the Cup Series Chase. It only enhances his chances based on the fact that he was the winner of this race 12 months ago.
Denny Hamlin also remains competitively positioned ahead of the final three rounds, although a return to form will be required after finishing only 28th last weekend. Ryan Blaney was the runner-up last time out, marking the fourth race running in which he had finished in the top five.
YellaWood 500 Picks
Another unpredictable edition of the YellaWood 500 is expected this weekend. Chase Elliott could be an interesting contender, having previously won twice at Talladega Superspeedway. Elliott’s form has been reliable, finishing third last weekend to ensure that he has claimed three top-ten finishes in the last four rounds.
