Event Preview

The fifth race of the F1 season will take place in China, as the Shanghai International Circuit hosts the first Chinese Grand Prix since 2019. It was first staged in 2004 before the outbreak of COVID-19 saw the event temporarily canceled in each of the last four years. This race will cover a total distance of 305.066 km, with one lap covering a distance of 5.451 km.

Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in this race, landing a total of six race wins to date. His most recent success was achieved in 2019 when finishing over six second clear of Valtteri Bottas. Mercedes is the most successful team at the Chinese Grand Prix, claiming six race victories during its history.

However, it may be hard to overlook the prospect of another race win for Verstappen at the end of May, as the reigning world champion has claimed victories in three of the opening four races this term. He expanded his championship lead with a victory in Japan, finishing over 12 seconds clear of Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.

Once again, it was Ferrari that was the closest team to Red Bull in terms of pace in Japan, with Carlos Sainz finishing third and six seconds ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc. It was another positive weekend for McLaren, but the Mercedes struggles were evident once again, with Hamilton and George Russell failing to live with the leading teams.

Chinese Grand Prix Prediction

Verstappen looks to be the standout bet in this race, but we could see further podiums being achieved by Ferrari, with Leclerc and Sainz both looking good value to finish in the first three.
