After a brilliant run of seven wins in eight MLS games, the Herons suffered their first-ever league loss with Messi in the starting XI. It happened against Atlanta United who beat them 3-1 in Florida. Before that, the Herons only lost when he was either injured or resting.
After the loss, they played another MLS game but failed to bounce back to the winning track. This time, they drew 3-3 with S. Louis City.
They’ll get another chance to get back to their winning ways on June 15, but the problem is that it’s very likely Messi will not feature in that game. Argentina’s captain is meant to join his national team a few days before the start of the 2024 Copa America, so he’ll probably miss the Philadelphia Union vs. Inter Miami game.
