Man City’s season in terms of being a success will rest on the FA Cup this term. Guardiola’s side have already let their hold on the Premier League title slip, and they exited the Champions League against Real Madrid. For the third round running, City will come up against an opponent from outside of the top-flight.
Plymouth won’t be daunted by the prospect of being outsiders at the Etihad this weekend, as they produced one of the great cup upsets in the previous round of the competition after claiming a famous 1-0 home win over Liverpool. However, this looks like a bigger challenge on the road.

Man City and Plymouth will be colliding in the FA Cup for just the second time this weekend. The first meeting between the teams came in the 1987-88 season, with City claiming a straightforward 3-1 home win.
Plymouth will also have to overcome a negative head-to-head record against City after losing each of the last five clashes. But, this will be the first meeting between the teams since the 1988-89 season.
However, City’s dominant record against sides from outside of the top division is worth considering. The champions have won each of their last 18 in the FA Cup, and they have conceded just nine goals across that period.
