Thierry Henry’s France will be among the favorites to win the gold medal in the soccer event this summer at the Olympics. The host nation will open their campaign on Wednesday when they come up against the USA. The USA will be making their return to the Olympics this summer for the first time since the 2008 Games in Beijing. On that appearance, they were eliminated in the group stage after winning just once in three matches. Their previous best appearance at the Games came in 2000, as they finished fourth in the overall standings.

The USA qualified for this summer’s event in impressive fashion after winning six of their seven matches. They scored a remarkable 31 goals, and conceded just twice during qualification. Unlike other nations, the USA have kept faith with their younger players, with the only overage selections coming in the defensive positions, with Walker Zimmerman and Miles Robinson called up.
