Event Preview
There are few events on the sporting calendar that garner as much excitement as Wimbledon. The grass-court Grand Slam is the oldest tennis tournament on the planet, and is largely considered to be the most prestigious of the events played on the WTA and ATP Tours. The men’s event has been dominated by the Big Four throughout the open era, with Roger Federer leading the way with eight championships.
However, that record could be matched by Novak Djokovic in 2023. The Serbian comes into the event in red-hot form, having won each of the opening two Grand Slam events in 2023. Djokovic has also won a staggering six Grand Slam titles in his previous eight appearances. He could be challenging to oppose after winning each of the last four Wimbledon tournaments, meaning that he hasn’t suffered defeat at SW-19 since 2017.

Carlos Alcaraz reached the French Open semi-finals in late June, before he succumbed to injury and was beaten by Djokovic. The Spanish 20-year-old won the US Open last year, but he has struggled at Wimbledon in each of the last two years, and he boasts a low win rate of 67%. At the prices, that could be enough of a reason to oppose the talented Spaniard.
Former world number one Daniil Medvedev will make headlines in the build-up to Wimbledon this year, as he was suspended from taking part last year due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He is yet to reach the same heights as before that ban, but his game is very much tailored to the grass court. Nick Kyrgios could also be a danger after reaching a first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon last year.
Men’s Wimbledon Prediction
Djokovic’s stunning record at Wimbledon is extremely challenging to overlook, meaning that he is the solid win play. However, a player that I always like throughout the grass court season is Matteo Berrettini. The 27-year-old was forced to pull out of the Grand Slam last year after testing positive for COVID-19, but he reached the final in 2021, and has won the Queen’s Championship in each of the previous two years.
