Event Preview

A fascinating clash in the last eight of the women’s French Open is set for Wednesday. Coco Gauff has been in excellent form over the last 12 months in Grand Slam events, reaching the semi-finals on two occasions. She will also be competing in the last eight at Roland Garros for the fourth straight year.

Gauff has been clinical on the court in Paris this year, as she is yet to drop a set on the clay. Her fast-starting approach has been a key trend in her progression through to this stage, as she has dropped just five games in the opening sets this point. That was once again reflected in the previous round after winning the first set 6-0 before battling to a straight sets win.

Madison Keys has been in career-leading form this year, and she remains in the hunt to add to her Australian Open success. The American is enjoying her best run at the French Open since reaching the quarterfinal stage in 2019. Meanwhile, she is a previous semi-finalist at Roland Garros.

Keys has been in solid form throughout her run to this stage, dropping just one set in her four matches. For the second straight round, she overcame an American rival in the fourth round, beating Hailey Baptiste in a closer encounter than the straight sets victory would indicate.

Head-to-Head Record

Coco Gauff holds the head-to-head advantage over Keys, having won two of the previous three encounters. However, the latest meeting between the rivals came in Madrid last year, with Keys winning 2-1 in sets.

Madison Keys vs. Coco Gauff Picks

There is little to separate the Americans based on their performances throughout the calendar year. But, the momentum that Keys has built following her win Down Under could make her the value play.
