Event Preview
All eyes will be on Spain this weekend, as the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix (previously known as the Spanish Grand Prix) will be staged. It will be the first edition of the race in its new name, and it will rotate its slot with the Belgian Grand Prix annually. The field will complete 66 laps to make up the 307.236 km race distance.
Kimi Antonelli’s emergence on the main stage has been dazzling in 2026. The Italian teenager has won each of the last five races, and is yet to finish outside of the first two this season. Antonelli kept his nerve in an eventful Monaco Grand Prix last time out, eventually finishing over six seconds clear of Lewis Hamilton.
George Russell has continued to lose ground on his teammate, retiring in Canada and dropping out of the points after penalties in Monaco. Russell has now dropped to third in the Championship Standings, with Hamilton jumping up to second after a second straight runner-up finish for Ferrari.
Many of the top teams endured miserable weekends in Monaco, with Max Verstappen qualifying second, before retiring on the first lap due to an engine issue. Teammate Isack Hadjar claimed a first podium for Red Bull after finishing third.
Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris were both forced into retirements, while Oscar Piastri finished fourth. It was a very positive weekend for the Racing Bulls, with Liam Lawson and Arvid Linblad both achieving top-six finishes. Fernando Alonso won a first point of the season for Aston Martin.
Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix Picks
Antonelli’s calmness under pressure should be respected, and he is currently driving on another level compared to the rest of the field. Therefore, the Italian could stretch his championship advantage with a sixth straight race win in the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
