Event Preview
The finishing line for the 2026 season will be in sight when the action resumes at the Dutch Grand Prix following the summer break. This race was first held in 1950, with the field completing 72 laps to make up the 306.587 km race distance. Jim Clark is the most successful driver in the history of the race with four wins, while Ferrari is the dominant team with eight victories.
All eyes will be on Kimi Antonelli when the season resumes, as the teenager currently holds a 50-point advantage at the top of the Drivers’ Championship. It was an excellent drive by the Italian to take third in the Hungarian Grand Prix, finishing ahead of championship rivals Lewis Hamilton (5th) and George Russell (7th).
Hamilton was left to bemoan team decisions, with the seven-time champion handed a grid penalty after not being given a warning by Ferrari in qualifying. A five-second penalty in the Grand Prix saw him drop from fourth to fifth. That was to the benefit of Charles Leclerc, who eventually finished fourth despite starting second.
It was another weekend to forget for Russell, as an anti-stall issue saw him drop to 21st on the first lap. Max Verstappen’s form is quietly going under the radar after taking second in Hungary to achieve a second podium finish in three races.
However, the big winners in Hungary were McLaren, with reigning world champion Lando Norris winning for the first time this season. It was a disappointing weekend for teammate Oscar Piastri, who collided when lapping Carlos Sainz, before retiring due to a gearbox issue.
