The 2023 NBA Draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 22, but the odds for props are already out. At least, they’re out for the first pick overall.

French wunderkind Victor Wembanyama is a huge favorite and, in this post, we’re going to explain why that’s the case. We’re also going to explain why (or why not) you should back this guy to be the very first pick.

As you can see in the table above, Victor Wembanyama is a huge favorite to land the first pick on June 22. Priced at -2500, the probability of him being drafted first overall is 96.2%. If you’re wondering why that is the case, it’s because Wemby’s already one of the best players in the world.

Sure, he’ll need a few more years to polish his skills, but everyone seems to agree he’s the greatest NBA in years. In fact, many believe he’s the best prospect in two decades – since LeBron James in 2003.

Speaking of James, even The King is impressed with Wemby. In an interview last year, he called the Frenchman “an alien” in the basketball universe.

So far, Wemby’s played for three French teams, most notably ASVEL Lyon – whose club president is legendary Tony Parker – with which he played 13 EuroLeague games.

What this means is that despite being only 19, he’s already battle-hardened and ready to take his next team to a whole new level. But which team will it be?

Wemby’s Next Destination

Back in October, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver warned the teams about tanking. The reason? Everyone was eager to be the first in line to capture Wemby’s signature.

As things turned out, the Detroit Pistons finished the season with the worst record, but this doesn’t mean they’re necessarily going to get the first pick. It’s all because of the NBA Draft Lottery. How it works is that the first four picks are drawn randomly from the 14 teams that didn’t make the playoffs.

It’s safe to say that whichever team wins the lottery will almost certainly go with Victor Wembanyama as their first pick. So, when will we know which team will get to pick first?

In about a month – the 2023 NBA Draft Lottery is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16.
