Any doubt that Man City remain in a turbulent period were answered in midweek, as the Premier League champions once again allowed an advantage to slip against Real Madrid, losing 3-2 in the first leg of their Champions League playoff. Therefore, City’s most likely route back into next season’s competition is by finishing in the top four spots in the Premier League.
Newcastle have the same objective this term, and the Magpies will also have their sights set on a Wembley date with Liverpool in the EFL Cup final. Eddie Howe’s side have won three of their last five Premier League matches, but they were defeated at home last time out against Fulham.

The solid advantage based on the head-to-head trends is with City this weekend. They have lost just once in their last 34 Premier League matches against the Magpies, with their only loss coming at St. James’ Park in January 2019. In home matches, City have won each of the last 15.
Overall, Newcastle are winless in their last 20 league away matches against City since a 1-0 success at Maine Road in September 2000. That is a damning trend that they will need to overcome this weekend.
